Abbotsford Students Win 8 Medals At BC Skills Competition

Submitted. It was a very successful day for students from the Abbotsford School District, who achieved a total of eight medals at the Skills Canada Provincial Competitions, held Wednesday (April 17) at Tradex in Abbotsford.

Hundreds of middle school through post-secondary students from throughout the province competed in 38 different skills categories.

The following are results for Abbotsford School District Career and Technical Program students:

Achieving Gold medals:
* In 2D Animation: Elijah Baluyan and Karmyn Chretien from Robert Bateman Secondary; Teacher: Byron Kask
* 3D Animation: Patty Chomseng and Conor Nolan from Abbotsford Virtual School; Teacher: Bill Henderson
* Architectural Drafting: Davejot Sidhu from Robert Bateman Secondary; UFV Instructors: Tricia Thomson and Larry Gritzmaker
* Electrical Wiring: Casey Lenning from Rick Hansen Secondary; UFV Instructor: David Riel
* Professional Cook: Amie Peters from Abbotsford Senior Secondary; Instructor: Andreas Fopp

Achieving Silver medal:
* Automotive Service Technician: David Lawton from Yale Secondary; UFV Instructor: Jim Watts

Gold medalists are invited to compete at the National Skills Competition to be held at BC Place in Vancouver, June 5-8th.
