Famed Columbian fashion designer Adriana Santacruz was in Vancouver last week showing her 2013 Fall/Winter Collection at the Chinese Cultural Center during Vancouver Fashion Week.
Said Jasmyn Pozzo in the Vancouver Observer on Friday, “Adriana is a woman full of energy and conviction, who has long been expressing her creativity through her designs.”
“Adriana believes each garment is an artistic composition achieved only through language and fabric affinity.”
According to her website, “Santcruz is a fashion designer, who was born in Pasto -Colombia, has been well-known for designing fabrics made out of loom using Indian craft techniques made by men and women whom descend from her local town tribes, which later on gave raise to the new habitants in Nariño which is located in the south of Colombia.
“Among her creation, we can find coats, stoles being made with contemporary concept, evocating space, tribal unity as well as cultural roots which transcends and opposes to the mechanization of the textile industry.
“The invaluable work of rescuing traditions, creating innovative and supporting diversity in the field of fashion, have given Adriana the achievement of different accomplishments and recognitions such as “El Lápiz de Acero Azul”, highest award to the colombian design, granted by Magazine “Proyecto & Diseño”.
“A scholarship at the Instituto Marangoni in Milan, a shared fashion show with designer Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, a Biennial of Design in Spain, the representation of Colombia in the World Fashion Week events and participation in major fashion events like the Vancouver Fashion Week..
“All this experience and design quality have deserved Santacruz the worthy title to be representative of Colombian design, becoming artisans ambassador to the world.”
