Submitted. On Wednesday, February 12 at 7:50 am the Abbotsford Police Department was called to a report of a robbery at a bank in the 2200 block of Whatcom Road. Staff reported that a suspect had smashed out a glass window to gain access to the un-open bank and had made demands for cash from the employees.
Abbotsford Police Emergency Response Team members, in an unmarked vehicle, happened to be in the same complex, a few hundred feet away when the call came in. Numerous Abbotsford Police Patrol Division, Bike Squad and ERT officers descended on the area. Two officers observed a man walking away from the bank. They stopped and arrested the man without incident. A subsequent search of the man’s backpack located a loaded handgun and a semi-automatic rifle.
