Submitted. The BC Aquasonics synchronized swimming Combo team placed 4th at Synchro Canada’s 2015 National Qualifier Championships in Victoria, BC last week with their Zombies routine, just 0.0333 points behind the bronze medalist Synchro Elite de Quebec.

The combo event kicked off the National Qualifier four day competition between teams from across Canada. Routines in this event are a combination of solo, duet, and team synchronized swimming with 10 athletes on each team, making it that much more difficult to synchronize.
“We were just a breath away from the podium,” says BC Aquasonics Head Coach Susan Kemper of their finish at the Qualifier. “Now that we know what our competition looks like, we know what we need to be standing on the podium at the Canadian Open next month.”
The BC Aquasonics Combo Team, coached by Susan Kemper, ChPC (Langley), includes Courtney Armstrong, Judith Gerhalter, Marlene Gerhalter, Seray Sefayi, Emily Yang, Nancy Zhang, and Jessica Friesen of Surrey; Alanna Stobbe of Abbotsford; Cameron Blades and Lindsey Solmes of Langley; and Alexia Iten and Kalista Iten of Anmore.
The two BC Aquasonics Junior teams also had outstanding results at the Qualifier, both finishing in the Top 10 in the Junior FINA Team Championships. The Junior A Cannibals team finished 7th and the Junior B Aliens team finished 10th.
The Junior A Team coached by Susan Kemper and Tanya Magee includes Surrey athletes Judith Gerhalter, Marlene Gerhalter, Seray Sefayi, and Nancy Zhang; Abbotsford athlete Alanna Stobbe; Langley athletes Cameron Blades and Lindsey Solmes; and Anmore athletes Alexia Iten and Kalista Iten.
The Junior B team, coached by Tanya Magee (Langley) and Suzanna Goddard (Port Moody), includes Courtney Armstrong, Jessica Friesen, Priya Lehal, and Emily Yang of Surrey; Grace Macdonald and Abby Rothwell of Delta; and Lani-Marie Carbonel and Cassandra Truss of Coquitlam.

All three teams head next to Toronto for the Canadian Open Synchronized Swimming Championships, April 29 to May 3. The Canadian Open brings together the best synchronized swimming teams from across the country and around the world in the National Stream Junior (16-18 years) and Senior (18+) age categories.
