By David Kent. The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades women’s basketball team defeated the MRU Cougars, 77-46, in Canada West regular season action at the Envision Athletic Centre. The Cascades, nationally ranked 3rd in the CIS top ten poll, now sport a 6-0 record and lead the Pacific Division of Canada West. The Cougars fall to 1-5 in the Pacific Division.

The Cascades came out strong tonight as they won their fourth straight home game and sixth overall to start the 2013-14 Canada West campaign. The Cascades held MRU to eight first quarter points and while the Cougars became the first Canada West opponent to score more than 40 points, they trailed by more than 10 points for most of the night. UFV again put on a defensive clinic as they created 19 MRU turnovers and recorded 8 steals as they held the Cougars to a 25 percent shooting average from the floor. UFV also dominated on the boards as they out rebounded MRU 48 to 22 for the game.
Coach Al Tuchscherer was able to play his entire bench again tonight as 11 different Cascades scored at least two points in the victory. UFV was led by Shayna Litman, Coquitlam, BC and Kayli Sartori, Chilliwack, BC with 13 points each. Katie Brink, Abbotsford, BC scored 11 points and along with Sartori pulled down a team leading 7 rebounds each.
Danica Rybachuk, Vernon, BC led MRU with 11 points and Carrie Campbell, Raymond, Alberta added 8 points and a team lading 9 rebounds.
UFV goes on the road next weekend to Edmonton, to face the University of Alberta Pandas and Saskatoon to face the Saskatchewan Huskies.
