The UFV Cascades men’s basketball team competed in the 5th Annual Maricopa County Holiday Classic on Jan 28-30, playing three games in the sunny heart of Arizona. The Cascades, competing against teams from Arizona, Texas, and Ontario, operated with a roster of only six players throughout the tournament.
UFV opened the tournament on Dec. 28 with a 63-58 loss to the Cochise College Apaches. Cascade Manjodh Dulay drained seven three-pointers during a competitive game that was tied five times in the second half alone (the last time at 54-54).
In the second game UFV took on South Mountain Community College, losing 89-78. Despite playing the last 16 minutes with only five players, the Cascades kept the game close. Four UFV players scored into double figures, including second year guard Gurminder Kang.
UFV’s final game of the tourney pitted the Cascades against the Phoenix College Bears. Manjodh Dulay hit three three-pointers in the 81-61 loss.
The Cascades will play their next game on January 10 at the University of Winnipeg.
