UPDATED 16:25 08/04/13 – By David Kent. The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades women’s volleyball team, 2013 CCAA national champions, will be recognized for their on court achievements by Abbotsford City Council and Mayor Bruce Banman on Monday, April 8th, at 3pm, in the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium, located at 32315 South Fraser Way.
The women’s volleyball team defeated the Lakeland Rustlers (ACAC) 3-0, to capture the 2013 CCAA National Championship. The title is the school’s first in the program’s history.
UFV started playing intercollegiate volleyball in 2004. The team finished the 2012-13 season with an amazing 27-2 record winning the PACWEST Championship and CCAA Championship.
The team’s fifth year senior middle Kayla Bruce was named the CCAA Player of the Year and Jenna Evans of Abbotsford, BC was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2013 CCAA Championship tournament in Lloydminster, Alberta.“I am very happy for the team, they have been great all year. The team works very hard and has been a delight to coach, they should be very proud of their accomplishments this year,” said a very happy head coach, Dennis Bokenfohr.
