The Heat depend on Comet weekends for the attendance they bring in from Vancouver to see the Canucks farm team play. This year the Heat have been averaging 2,882 bums in seats – well below the 3,400 per game they require to break even.
Despite promises by Councillors John Smith and Bruce Beck that the Heat would be sharing profits with the City o Abbotsford, the City’s taxpayers have bailed the team out each and every year since they’ve been in Abbotsford. Despite a stellar performance on the ice by the team, Abbotsford does not appear to be the ‘hockey mad town’ Smith and Beck thought it was.
The citizens of Abbotsford should be hearing soon how much the annual bailout package will be this year.
