Submitted. The City of Abbotsford is pleased to announce that 2016 Abbotsford BC Summer Games Board of Directors is now in place. The team will lead the planning and organization for the Games and includes President Steve Carlton and Vice-President: Stan Petersen, as well as 14 additional community leaders who have stepped up to take on various areas of responsibility.
A nominating committee led the selection of the Board of Directors for the Games and made recommendations to Abbotsford City Council who approved the membership at this afternoon’s Council meeting. The Board will be supported through the planning process by the BC Games Society. The City of Abbotsford will welcome as many as 3667 participants (2754 athletes, 535 coaches, and 378 officials) in 18 sports.
The Games will kick off with an Opening Ceremony on Thursday, July 21, 2016; include three exciting days of competition between July 22 & 24; and conclude with a Closing Ceremony on July 24. Venues for sport competitions and special events will be announced as details are finalized. The Sport Package for the Games can be found on the BC Games Society website.
The BC Summer Games feature the best young developing athletes in the province supported by certified coaches and officials. Over 3000 volunteers will be needed to stage the Games and will infuse as much as $2 million dollars into the local economy.
