Abbotsford Rugby finished off 2013 with two major wins – the U-15 boys finished the season as BC Provincial Champions. after blanking Capilanos 36-0 in the final at Exhibition Park..
The Club’s female teams had a similar finish to the season with U18 girls winning the provincial title against Cowichan 29-12 and the senior women winning the Tier 2 championship beating UBC-Okanagan 25-12.
The Club has been an integral part of the sports scene in Abbotsford for 40 years and the coming year is likely to be as big as any the club has experienced.

President’s Message
The 2012/2013 Season is the 40th year of rugby for the Abbotsford Rugby Football Club. Established in 1972 we have a long history of quality teams and players with various BC Championships on both our Men’s and Women’s sides.Our Youth and Minis program continue to develop and experience amazing growth. With several representative players for BC and Canada in our youth program we have secured Championship wins at many levels. Our Mini program is one of the largest in BC with upwards of 100 boys and girls in the program. We are one of the few Clubs that has teams for all ages and skill levels of players. From our Mini’s (5-13 Years Old) to our Old Boys team the Abbotsford Originals (37 Years Old and Older) we have members ranging from 5 to 50+ playing on any given weekend.
This season we will be running First, Second, Third, and Old Boys Division Teams for men, and a First Division Team for Women. There will be Youth teams for players ranging in age from 14 to 17, and of course Minis Program for players ranging in age from 5 to 13. The ARFC is building for the future and developing our players to maintain a Premiership level of rugby with ‘home grown’ talent. We pride ourselves on being able to maintain our teams with local players thanks to the strong Mini and Youth Programs we have established.
The Abbotsford Rugby Club has produced many international players. Players such as Mike Schmid, Ken Peace, Brian Mosychuk, Harry Toews, Ryan Banks, Rob Phillips, and John Cannon were all Abbotsford players at one point who went on to represent Canada. In recent years, Bryn Keys, Brodie Henderson, Ryan McWhinney, and Scott Hunter all earned the honour of playing 15’s for Canada. Mike Schmid, Callum MacIntosh, Matt Kehler, Tony Rietsma, Brodie Henderson, and Bryn Keys all played for the Canada 7’s team. Many Abbotsford players have also represented Canada at the youth levels. One of the great things about the game of rugby is that it is very popular internationally and the social aspect of the game is an integral component. The Clubhouse is open every Thursday night and Saturday after home games, and we encourage everyone to come by for a visit. For those that love the game, but choose not to play, we offer Social Memberships so you can enjoy the Clubhouse and be a full member of the Abbotsford Rugby Football Club.
