Gallery 7 Theatre will be holding open auditions for its first production of the 2013/2014 “Spice of Life!” season, a new adaptation of Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Laura Eason, on Wednesday, September 4 at 6:30 PM. The audition is open to all male and female performers ages 16 to 65. Those interested in working behind the scenes in such areas as assistant stage management, sound operation, running crew and others are also invited to attend.
Audiences will be invited to rediscover this classic American tale about the loveable scallywag, Tom Sawyer, as he sets out for adventure and manages to break the rules along the way! All the classic moments from the Mark Twain story are here: the discovery of how to get rid of warts using a dead cat, the murder of Doc Robinson, Tom & Huck’s pirating adventure to Jackson Island, and the infamous white-washing incident. Through his exploits, Tom discovers the value of purpose, and the importance of family, love, and telling the truth.
Gallery 7’s production will feature up to 6 male and 2 female performers, with most playing multiple roles. “What better way to launch a new season than with a fun-filled adventure the entire family can enjoy,” says Gallery 7 Theatre’s artistic director, Ken Hildebrandt. “Though Mark Twain’s comic tale is familiar to many, this new adaptation uses some fun story-telling techniques to create a refreshing and exciting theatre experience.”
Directing The Adventures of Tom Sawyer will be John Trottier, who last directed Our Town for the theatre. The show will run November 8 & 9, 14 – 16, 21 – 23 at 7:30 PM with matinees on November 9, 16 & 23 at 2:00 PM at the MEI Auditorium, 4081 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford. Rehearsals will commence September 9, and will be held on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 10PM. Two Saturday rehearsals will also be scheduled. All rehearsals and performances will be held at the MEI Auditorium, 4081 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford.
