Submitted. Gallery 7 Theatre will be holding open auditions for its next production of the 2013/2014 “Spice of Life!” season, Having Hope at Home, a comedy about family relationships by Canadian playwright, David S. Craig. To be held on Thursday, November 14 at 6:30 PM, the audition is open to all male and female performers ages 20 to 65. Those interested in working behind the scenes are also invited to attend.
The story of Having Hope at Home is as follows: It’s the mother of all peace treaties: a formal family dinner. Carolyn has invited her estranged parents over to make peace. The table is laid, the turkey is in the oven and Carolyn has just gone into labor. In a valiant attempt to hide her labour pains from her parents, Carolyn struggles to maintain the façade of civility as she wrestles to find her place in the family. This hilarious comedy explores love, letting go and reconciling each other’s differences, all the while hoping against hope for a brighter tomorrow.
Gallery 7’s production will feature 3 male performers and 3 female performers. “This is a comedy that explores the sometimes precarious dynamics that exist between children and their parents with hilarious results,” says Gallery 7 Theatre’s artistic director, Ken Hildebrandt. “Though the play hits a bit close to home with its raw honesty, it’s a charming piece filled with, of course, hope. The play also offers actors great roles to sink their teeth in to.”
Directing Having Hope at Home will be Becky MacDormand, who is currently directing Trinity Western University’s production of Crimes of the Heart.
The play will run January 24 & 25, 30 – Feb. 1, Feb 6 – 8 at 7:30 PM with matinees on January 25, Feb. 1 & 8 at 2:00 PM at the MEI Auditorium, 4081 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford. Rehearsals will commence November 21, and will be held on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 10PM. Several Saturday rehearsals will also be scheduled. All rehearsals and performances will be held at the MEI Auditorium, 4081 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford.
