From The Heat. The Abbotsford Heat announced today that they signed forwards Steve Begin and Carter Bancks to one year deals.

Begin played 36 games for the Flames last season picking up four goals and four assists along with 22 penalty minutes. The 35 year old native of Trois Rivieres, Quebec had two tours of duty with Calgary after suiting up for the Flames from 1997-2003 playing in 123 games and scoring 11 goals, seven assists for 18 points and 192 penalty minutes. Begin was originally drafted by the Calgary Flames in the 2nd round with the 40th overall pick in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. Last season, Begin was nominated for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy by the Calgary Chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association (PHWA) which goes to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.

In his fourth season with the Abbotsford Heat, Carter Bancks played 59 games last season registering five goals and seven assists for 12 points and 53 penalty minutes. He was also called up by the Calgary Flames on April 21 and played in a pair of NHL games, the first of his career.
