Submitted. We live in a vibrant community, perched on the banks of the beautiful Fraser River, brimming with creative people and a rich history. How can we work together to build on these strengths? The Mission Cultural Resources Commission (CRC) invites community groups and individuals to begin a conversation on Mission’s future as a “Creative City”.
The CRC hopes to draw artists of all stripes, members of our arts and cultural organizations, politicians and interested community members to ponder what is great about our city and where it can use a little love. How we can expand on the good stuff? How can our arts and cultural resources creatively address issues? How can we work together more effectively? We will be utilizing some resources from the Creative City Network of Canada and encourage folks to visit www.creativecity.ca to see what’s happening around the country.
Founded in 2008, the Mission CRC provides the expertise of a diverse group of citizens, appointed by the District of Mission, to make recommendations that help shape the infrastructure and support base for regional cultural activities, services and organizations. The CRC develops and advises on DOM policy, including the Public Art Policy; coordinates the Mission Muse Awards – Celebrating the Arts; consults with other Mission Commissions and community arts, culture and heritage organizations and community members, participates in the Mission Chamber of Commerce Tourism Committee, facilitates community forums on a range of topics and helps to promote and coordinate National Culture Days events in Mission.
I Love Mission takes place Friday, October 24 at the Mission Leisure Centre from 1pm to 3:30pm. A light lunch is provided. The forum is free to the public but an RSVP is required to culture@mission.ca .
