March Is Fraud Prevention Month

Prospera presents Fraud Friday to share tips on fraud prevention

Submitted.  Financial scams and fraud are one of the most common forms of crime in this country. As Canadians, many of us have experienced fraud and the devastating impact it can have on our personal finances, our business, not to mention our sense of dignity and overall well-being. With greater awareness, most fraud can be prevented.

March is Fraud Prevention Month across Canada and Prospera urges members and consumers who perform online financial transactions to be vigilant and protect themselves against fraud. Throughout the month, Prospera Credit Union will be presenting #FraudFriday on social media to share tips and resources for fraud prevention.

Recently, Canada’s Competition Bureau, in conjunction with the Better Business Bureau, released their Top Ten Scams of 2017. Many of these scams rely on the internet or social media and target people of all ages and backgrounds.

The Competition Bureau is one of many resources that offer useful information on how to recognize, report and prevent fraud. It is important that everyone is aware of the preventative steps they can take as well as how to report fraud when it does happen. Take the time to familiarize yourself and help others become aware of how to recognize, report and prevent fraud.
