School District #34 Superintendent Kevin Godden recently outlined how the district is using the Learning Improvement Fund (LIF) to support the students and the Board’s Strategic Plan.
The district received an additional $3.2 million this year, most of which will be used to hire additional teachers and support staff to further assist students who struggle. This primarily will be hiring additional classroom teachers,
learning assistance teachers, and school counselors.
The remainder of the fund will be used to hire more special educational assistants who work with children with
exceptional learning needs. Superintendent Godden outlined that this fund augments a sizeable annual investment (of over $15 million) that the Board already makes to support vulnerable learners in the district.
He noted that this investment is a critical part of the reason why Abbotsford students perform so well on provincial assessments, and why the district’s graduation rate is 10% greater than the provincial average.
