Barbara and Bob Jackson are a typical middle-class English couple, living in the suburbs with their teen-aged daughter Julie. They enjoy a quiet, safe and ordinary life. But that all begins to change when M.I.5 agent Stewart arrives, seeking to use their home to spy on the neighbors – one of whom Stewart suggests may be involved in selling classified information to the Soviets. Someone they know is not who they seem to be. But which neighbor is it? Who is it they cannot trust? As the intrigue builds, it becomes apparent the subjects of the investigation are the Jackson’s own best friends.
Knowing that their friends could soon be arrested, Bob and Barbara grapple over how much to cooperate with Stewart, while at the same time struggling with feelings of betrayal and deceit.
