UPDATE:Integrated Homicide Team (IHIT) called in. Based on the observations made by investigators the circumstances were deemed to be suspicious and the Abbotsford Police Department contacted IHIT. The, sex, identity and cause of death are not yet known. IHIT has taken conduct of the investigation and an autopsy will be performed to determine if this is a homicide.
“IHIT continues working with the Abbotsford Police Department and our priority is to determine this person’s identity and notify their next of kin.” says Sgt. Adam MacIntosh of IHIT.

Submitted. This morning around 8:00 am, a citizen was walking along the Fraser River in North Abbotsford, in an area off of Walters Street. They spotted what appeared to be human remains entangled in some debris at the water’s edge. Abbotsford Police Department Patrol officers, Forensic Identification members and Major Crime Unit detectives attended the scene.
The APD members are currently attempting to extricate the apparently decomposed human remains for further examination and investigation.
We are in the earliest stages of investigation and more information will be released after a recovery is complete.
