BUILDING STRONGER COMMUNITIES – PROSPERA’S UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN RAISES OVER $60,000
Submitted. Coming together as a community and working together to help each other is one of the basic values that all co-operative organizations share. It’s also a necessary component for building healthy, strong communities. For over a decade, Prospera Credit Union has been supporting United Way to help build stronger communities throughout BC and in 2016, the credit union and its 450 employees raised a further $60,010 towards that goal.
In addition to Prospera’s staff fundraising, for the sixth year in a row the credit union had the opportunity to sponsor a community representative to assist United Way in their campaign efforts. Throughout the fall, Prospera’s sponsored rep Kim Gemmel visited organizations of all sizes to share information about the many vital programs and services that are supported by United Way funding.
“I believe most of us want to make a difference, but often we get overwhelmed by the complexity of the issues facing our communities so we don’t always know where to start or how we can help,” says Prospera’s President and CEO, Shawn Good. “What makes United Way so effective at tackling tough issues is their willingness to initiate conversations with people who live in the community and connect them with the support they need to foster neighbourhood and community engagement.”
As a local credit union, Prospera is dedicated to supporting organizations that make life better for everyone. Prospera employees have been coordinating United Way workplace campaigns for more than a decade and raised over $760,000 in that time. Knowing they are making a meaningful difference for others, they are committed to continue assisting those in need and building stronger communities throughout the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley and the Okanagan.
