2013 CANADA DAY PARADE RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. Important Times:
7:00am -Assembly area on Ware Street will be available and closed to traffic.
o For those groups who need to decorate their floats on site, it is best to
arrive as early as possible to ensure you are ready.
(Bevan to South Fraser Way.)
o Upon arrival, please check in at Parade Headquarters to pick up your
parade entry package.

All entrants must be in the assembly area on Ware Street and in
position 11:00am

Parade begins. Judging of entries will occur along the route.
2. Disbandment occurs on Mouat Drive, located off of Trethewey Street.
3. Fees:
Commercial entries are $300 per entry.
Non-profit groups are free of charge.
Commercial groups that do not pay the rate will be refused entry.
You may pay online (after online registration), or make payment by cheque that can be mailed to

4. Decorations and Theme:
The Canada Day Parade Committee will be enforcing the
75% decorated clause and will refuse entry to unsuitably decorated floats, vehicles,
and/or units which, in his/her opinion, would constitute a hazard to the safety of the
parade, or is otherwise unsuitable.
The theme of the 2013 parade is “Wild, Wild West”
Please check the parade application for judging categories to help with your decorating
ideas.
5. Parade Position:
Parade position will be based solely on the time the completed
application form is received. Entrants will be mailed their parade number before July 1,
which must be displayed on the driver side of the vehicle so judges can clearly see your
entry. All positions will be marked on Ware Street on July 1.
6. Vehicle Insurance:
All vehicles must be licensed and fully insured. Insurance is the
responsibility of the entrant. All drivers must hold a valid driver’s licence. Drivers must
remain with their vehicles at all times. Vehicles subject to all sections of the Motor
Vehicle Act, enforced by the Abbotsford Police Department.
7. Fire Safety:
Smoking and fires are not permitted on or near floats, unless a special
permit is obtained from the Fire Department. The Fire Department may inspect all floats
and decorated units. A 5lb 2A10BC Dry Chemical Fire Extinguisher must be on all float
entries. No combustible materials near exhausts or hot areas, and no open flames are
permitted on floats.
9. Pace of Floats:
A distance of 20 feet (6 m) must be maintained between parade
units. Units creating unnecessary gaps may be removed from the parade. Forward
motion must be maintained. Obey parade marshals at intersections.
10. Handouts:
Free handouts (candy, toys, prizes) may be passed out by parade
walkers to spectators, but must
NOT
be thrown from vehicles.
No leaflets are to be distributed.
11. Special Rules:
All bicyclists, skateboarders, and motorcyclists in the parade MUST
wear helmets. All animal entrants must supply their own clean-up crew for assembly
area and parade route, or will be denied entry to the parade.
