Submitted. Abbotsford’s Neighbours’ Day on September 20 is an excellent opportunity for everyone to strengthen their neighbourhood connections.

Neighbours’Day is celebrated worldwide as an annual celebration of community, bringing together the people next door, across the street or even on the next farm for some social interaction and fun.

This year, the City of Abbotsford is encouraging residents to get together this year and plan something special for their neighbours, and then register their idea at www.mycityisabbotsford.ca to share their story.

Through this website, residents can access the Neighbourhood Spirit Toolkit that provides excellent information, tips and resources for anyone planning or hosting inclusive neighbourhood events and socials. Examples of items available through the site include tables, chairs, a barbeque, tents, a tug-of-war rope, and games for all ages.
These items are all loaned free of charge, and are available on a first come, first serve basis (some restrictions apply). If additional support is needed, residents can also contact the City of Abbotsford’s Community Developer at sfederspiel@abbotsford.ca for assistance.

Developing strong neighbourhoods as a way to enhance community safety and reduce crime became a priority for the City of Abbotsford in 2010. Neighbourhood Capacity Building is a key part of the Crime Reduction and Community Safety Strategy. Abbotsford’s Neighbours’ Day is a way to inspire residents to get to know each other, and help make Abbotsford neighbourhoods safer and more vibrant places to live.
