Mayor Henry Braun has issued the following statement on the passing of Peter Dueck:
“Peter Dueck leaves a legacy of community service in Abbotsford, serving on boards and committees too numerous to mention. As an MLA, municipal and community leader, Peter always put the public interest and the community before all else. His accomplishments have made a lasting impact on the City of Abbotsford, Metro Vancouver and the Province of BC.
“Peter was a personal friend, an inspiration and a mentor and I will miss him greatly. My thoughts and prayers, as well as those of Abbotsford City Council are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

Premier Christy Clark has issued the following statement on the death of Peter Dueck:
“Peter Dueck achieved a proud record of service to British Columbians, while never forgetting his humble beginnings. As a municipal leader, MLA, and minister in several portfolios including health, Peter always put community and the public first.
“Peter distinguished himself equally when it came to public service, business and family. He leaves a legacy of accomplishments that have made Abbotsford and Metro Vancouver better off.
“My thoughts and prayers, and those of our government, are with Peter’s family, friends and loved ones.”
Obituary
Dueck’s obituary in the Vancouver Sun marked his passing on February 19, 2015. He was predeceased by Helen, his beloved wife of 62 years, and survived by his four children, Ed (Carole), Gerald (Anne), Larraine (Mark) Kandal, Leonard (Pamela) and nine grandchildren, Jennie, Melanie, Stefanie, Brittanie (Perry) Thiessen, Cameron, Alissa, David, Taylor and Landon and one great-grandchild, Silas Thiessen.
“Dueck’s political career began in 1978, serving as an alderman and deputy mayor for the Municipality of Matsqui. He turned to provincial politics in October 1986, when he was elected to the B.C. Legislature. During his seven years in the provincial government, Peter held cabinet posts in more than one portfolio, including the Ministry of Health. In government as in business, Peter earned a reputation for integrity and competence.”
