Abbotsford Youth Orchestra

The Abbotsford Youth Orchestra was established in 2000 by Dr. Calvin Dyck, who is the current director and conductor of the orchestra. Over the years, the orchestra has performed in numerous concerts across the country with their famous concert series called, “Songs, Strings, and Steps”.  This year we celebrated 12 years of Songs Strings & Steps performances (8 Christmas shows and 12 Spring shows)!

Comprised of two groups (Junior and Senior), the orchestra provides great opportunities for youth to learn a broad range of orchestral repertoire and to perform in public. At each concert, the orchestra also incorporates choreography and exciting entertainment including special effects such as fog stage, photo slides, costumes, wigs, and off-stage performances. Creativity and excitement are evident at every concert, pleasing both the performers and the audience.

The performance level requirement for the Senior group is RCM grade 7 or higher. Rehearsals are every Wednesday evening at MEI Middle School in Abbotsford. Please email us if you want to schedule an audition for the orchestra. chdyck@shaw.ca
