Walter Neufeld has done the math behind Mayor Banman’s decision to go against the majority of council and torpedo the smallest low-barrier housing project in the history of the province.
Days after the decision Abbotsford Today revealed that the board of the ADBA had voted unanimously to put $10,000 up for a society to end homelessness in Abbotsford.

Despite the fact Abbotsford Council voted four to three to accept $15.3 million dollars from the provincial government in order to build the proposed ACS/BC Housing low barrier shelter for homeless men, Abbotsford Mayor Bruce Banman stepped in and voted with the ‘No’ side creating a tie and killing the proposal.

ADBA Board Unanimously Agrees To Put $10,000 Towards Housing Solution

On a motion from downtown land owner and one-time president Bob Bos, the Board of the Abbotsford Downtown Business Association (ADBA) has voted unanimously to ask the membership at the next month’s Annual General Meeting to donate $10,000 to the pursuit of a housing solution for Abbotsford’s homeless population which cannot be housed in the City’s existing high barrier shelters.

He also founded a group called ‘Men on Roofs’. The full name of the group is ‘Men on Roofs ask Canadian politicians to stop filching our democracy’ and they are sponsoring a series of politically charged images aimed at Canadian politicians.

*Walter Neufeld was born and raised in Abbotsford. He manages a development company operating in BC and in Alberta. Walter has been a critic of the provincial government’s dysfunctional Mines Act for about 12 years. Neufeld is the president of the Fraser Valley Regional District Citizens Association (FVRDCA). Most recently, he’s critiqued both Honourable Randy Hawes and the gravel industries Aggregate Pilot Project which he believes to be a harmful private production document .
