Submitted. It’s a good year for the annual Dogwood/District Authority Awards in Abbotsford, as 121 recipients – an increase of 27% from the previous year – have each been awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
The grade 12 students undertook a variety of projects last year, and successfully completed 100 hours in various areas of interest: community service, practical arts, and creative arts.
Participants in the program had to make a public presentation of their project to adjudicators.
The Ministry of Education allocates these awards annually, in the form of a $500 cheque, and a $500 voucher that can be redeemed when a student enters a designated post secondary institution. Three recipients (Rick Hansen grad Chendan Badesha, WJ Mouat grad Jora Majore, and Abbotsford Traditional grad Alicia Pastro) were on hand as representatives of the 121 award recipients.
The three graduates reviewed their projects and updated the board on their individual plans for the coming years.
