Submitted. On January 22, 2015 at approximately 5:45 am Fraser Valley Traffic Services responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision westbound on
Hwy #1 near Whatcom Road.
Early reports from a witness indicate this was a two vehicle collision where an unsafe lane change and aggressive driving were contributing factors. As a result of the collision, one vehicle entered the median portion of the highway and the lone occupant was ejected as he was not wearing his seatbelt.
The lone occupant of the second vehicle was transported to a local area hospital for assessment.
Fraser Valley Traffic Services is continuing with the investigation. The Integrated Collision Analyst and Reconstructionist Services (ICARS)
and the Coroner are assisting. Abbotsford Police Department and Fire Rescue Service also played a key role at the scene.
The name of the deceased driver is not being released at this time out of respect for the Next of Kin.
All lanes of Hwy #1 are open; however, traffic is still slow due to the earlier closure.
Our thoughts go out to the family who lost their loved one this morning. The RCMP would like to remind the public of the importance of always wearing your seatbelt.
