Heat Down Monsters 4-2 Friday

From The Heat. The Abbotsford Heat won 4-2 in regulation time against the Lake Erie Monsters (AHL affiliate of Colorado Avalanche) on Friday night at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre (AESC), bringing their season record to 4-3-0-1.

Reto Berra stopped 22 of 24 shots in the game, earning his 4th win of the season. Ben Street earned first star honours in his first AHL appearance since being sent down by the Calgary Flames earlier this week. Roman Horak also had a

solid showing with two assists in the game.

The Heat opened the scoring at 14:44 of the first period with a goal by Ben Street, assisted by Max Reinhart. Street’s was the only goal in the first period, as the Heat were unable to capitalize on a power play with three minutes remaining.

The Lake Erie Monsters answered back early in the second period with a goal by Joey Hishon at 1:09. The Heat quickly took back the lead at 5:25 of the second with a goal by Carter Bancks, his first this season. Corban Knight added to the Heat lead at 15:54 with a goal assisted by Greg Nemisz and Roman Horak.

The Monsters scored early in the third with a goal by captain Bryan Lerg at 1:01. However, Chad Billins scored the insurance goal for the Heat on the power play at 6:53, assisted by Roman Horak and Blair Jones.

Reto Berra earned the win for Abbotsford, making 22 saves on 24 shots. Sami Aittokallio made 28 saves on 32 shots for Lake Erie.

The Heat finished one for four on the power play and killed off four of five Lake Erie man advantages.

The Heat play Lake Erie again tomorrow, October 26th at 7PM PDT. The game will be a “Monster Mash”, a costume event with Halloween themed activities and trick or treating on suite level for children under 12 years old. Next week they go on the road to face the Utica Comets (AHL affiliate of Vancouver Canucks) and Hamilton Bulldogs (AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens).
