Submitted. Today, the Province and Fraser Health officially celebrated the opening of the Mission Community Health Centre – the first of its kind in Fraser Health. The new centre will support improved access to health care services in the community of Mission and to the growing population across the Fraser Valley by locating a range of services in one location.
The 27,000-square-ft. facility will provide programs such as public health, home health, mental health and substance use, an older adult clinic and a diabetes clinic. This project builds on Fraser Health’s commitment to being innovative in providing better care and improved health outcomes for the communities it serves.
The community health centre originated from the Mission Community Health Planning Project (MCHPP), developed in 2008/2009 by Fraser Health, the Fraser Valley Regional Hospital District and the District of Mission. The project addressed the health related needs of Mission area residents and provided recommended actions to close the gap between the needs and services in the District of Mission. Two of the recommendations specifically put forward by the MCHPP were the development of a community health centre and the development of a campus of care for seniors. Together, these components will directly support the community health plan for Mission and serve to create a campus of care adjacent to the Mission Memorial Hospital. Construction is currently underway on the campus of care for seniors, which is scheduled to open in spring 2014.
The range of programs and services available in the community health centre will continue to expand in the coming years in order to further support the health and well-being of Mission and Fraser Valley residents. Programs and services are now fully operational for patients and clients.
