Parent Orientation At UFV Answers Questions For Students’ Biggest Fans

By Anne Russell. When a student goes to university for the first time, their family is along for the journey. Mom and Dad may not be sitting beside them in the lecture theatre or attending labs, but they are often a key part of the support network for new students.

But for many post-secondary students, university is a new experience for the whole family. A significant number of UFV students are the first in their family to go to university.

Parents and other family members may be experiencing a range of emotions as they help the student in their family prepare for university. They share in the excitement, but worry about the challenges, costs, and unknown variables involved in a post-secondary education.

To help answer some of the questions that parents may have, UFV is hosting a parent orientation evening on June 20 in Abbotsford.

The Abbotsford session will be held Thurs, June 20 from 5:30 to 8 pm in the Envision Athletic Centre north gym (Building E) on the Abbotsford campus (33844 King Road).

“Family members are valuable partners and coaches in a student’s academic journey,” says UFV Vice President of Students Jody Gordon. “We invite you to learn valuable information about UFV’s departments, programs, and services.”

To register for one of the sessions, please go to ufv.ca/share and register by June 14.
