Submitted. At 12:01 pm, Abbotsford Fire Rescue Services attended a residential house fire at 2685 Moritz Way today.
On arrival, the first responding unit reported that there was heavy smoke coming from the rear of the structure and crews then quickly discovered that the fire was located in the basement suite. The fire had already vented through a large window and was threatening to spread to the upper floors of the residence.
AFRS crews were able to quickly get the fire under control. The living room of the basement suite suffered extensive damage and there was smoke damage throughout the rest of the structure.
No one was injured and the owner of the residence was the only one home at the time. Fortunately, the owner was alerted to the presence of fire by the fire alarm system and was able to quickly vacate the structure.
At this time, AFRS fire investigators are on scene and have not yet determined the cause of the fire. 4 units of fire apparatus, and 16 firefighters attended the scene, as well as APD and BC Ambulance.
