SFU Defeats UFV Men’s Soccer Squad

By David Kent. The Simon Fraser University Clan (GNAC-NCAA) defeated the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades (Canada West-CIS), 3-1 Thursday night at Terry Fox Field, in Burnaby, BC. This is UFV’s first spring match, the Cascades will play four more over the next six days.

The Cascades came out strong and second year defender Sahib Phagura, Abbotsford, BC opened the scoring midway through the first half to give UFV the one goal lead. The Clan would tie the match right before the half.

In the second half, UFV’s fourth year goalkeeper, Jake Kubanski, Chilliwack, BC kept the Cascades in the match with several key saves, before Simon Fraser would score two goals to clinch the exhibition victory over UFV.

“The boys played well in the first half, SFU is a very strong team and they scored two beautiful goals in the second half,” commented UFV head coach Alan Errington. The Cascades now turned their attention to the University of Victoria’s Keg Classic. UFV opens the classic against the host Vikes, Saturday, March 23 at 4pm.
