From Brian Gross, Executive Director/Counsellor, Impact Youth Substance Use Services. Joint announcement from the Community Action Initiative, Vancouver Foundation, City of Vancouver, First Nations Health Authority, and Vancouver Coastal Health Authority
We are excited to announce free, half-day in-person Social Innovation Workshops in October, 2014 for community-based non-profit agencies, charitable organizations, and Aboriginal agencies/organizations/health centres providing services to First Nation and Aboriginal peoples in BC. This workshop will be facilitated by Cheryl Rose, a leading social innovation expert and principal member of Social Innovation Generation at the University of Waterloo. Workshop participants will learn to define and identify social innovation, influence systems change, and create collaborative community solutions for engaging vulnerable populations with an eye to creating stronger funding proposals.
In-person workshops will be held in Vancouver, Surrey, Nanaimo, Kelowna, Kamloops, and Prince George. An online workshop will also be offered for those unable to attend in person. Dates and venues are included in the Call for Letters of Intent (download here). Partial travel subsidies may be available for those who must travel more than 1 hour (one way) to the closest workshop.
In addition to learning more about Social Innovation, organizations that attend the workshop will also be eligible to apply for one of 12 Capacity Scholarships (including workshop fees, partial travel and accommodation, and honoraria/release time equivalent) to participate in an intensive, four-month Social Innovation Workshop Series beginning in Vancouver in February, 2015. The intended outcome of the workshop series is to transform innovative project ideas into viable project plans. Only those agencies that attend one of the Social Innovation workshops in October, 2014, will have the opportunity to compete for the Capacity Scholarship, and, only those agencies that receive a Capacity Scholarship, and complete a viable project plan, will have the opportunity to apply for potential future funding through this initiative.
