For the interest of parents & students in Abbotsford:  the following is a listing of Summer 2013 youth programs, camps and activities offered in Abbotsford and area that have been submitted to the Abbotsford School District. They are offered by these community organizations. Note that inclusion in this list does not represent endorsement of the offerings or information by the School District.  Parents are encouraged to check the details of these offerings before making a commitment. FOR PRE-SCHOOLERS

• Summer StrongStart: A free, drop-in program for children ages 0 – 6.Child must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. StrongStart Centres offer preschool aged children, quality early learning experiences. See more details here 

FOR STUDENTS/FAMILIES FROM ALL SCHOOLS

• Summer Drama Blast: Gallery 7 Theatre & Performing Arts presents an explosion of summer fun for kids ages 6 to 18. See more details here 

Full Time Summer Care with Sun Hang Do Martial Arts: Kids Life Skills Club/Fully Licensed Child Care. Drop off and Pickup Any Time Between: 7 am – 6 pm. See more details here 

• Theatre camp: Jesters Theatre (a part of Youth Unlimited) is doing a theatre camp for students in grades 4 – 12 called “Hillbilly Hoedown.” See more details here . NOTE: this is offered by a faith-based organization.

• Abbotsford Olympians Swim Club: July swim. Swim for the whole month or week by week. See more details  here 

• Mission Folk Festival/Sabir Sisters Music Camp: The Fraser Valley’s premiere Folk and Celtic Camp offers classes in song-writing, voice, choir, classical violin, fiddle, guitar, step-dancing, banjo, mandolin and piano. This all ages camp promotes traditional music and culture. Students of all abilities are welcome!  See more details here 

• Summer Soccer Camp: JBST Soccer Academy presents Abbotsford soccer camps for all youth age groups. Transmitting the passion of the game and spotting spirit is the camp’s mission. See more details here 

 FOR STUDENTS/FAMILIES FROM ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

• French Immersion Character Camp: WJ Mouat Secondary School has launched a camp which is led primarily by their students, many of whom are a part of the WJ Mouat student Character Council. The 2nd full instalment of the camp will run during the first week of July. • UFV Summer Science camps 2013: UFV Faculty of Science offers Science Rocks! summer camp every year in July – August. These camps are designed especially for young people in Grades 4, 5, and 6 (campers going into Grade 4 or 7 are eligible). These camps are great fun and a fantastic learning opportunity for campers. • UFV Mini-Cascades Multi Sport Summer Camp: Camp will offer kids instruction from Cascade athletes in various ball sports and recreational activities. Details here 

• Art camps @ the Reach: The Reach is offering three different summer camps over July and August, offering music, theatre heritage and art. Details here 

• Summer Slam Day Camp: West Abbotsford Community School summer program opportunities for all Abbotsford schools and the Abbotsford students.  These programs are open to all children. Details here.

• Summer Youth Zone : Abbotsford Youth Commission will have their Summer Youth Zone/centre at ARC open from 12-5pm Mon-Fri all summer and is completely free and open to youth 12-18. See more details here.

Teen Summer Reading Clubs: Fraser Valley Regional Library (FVRL) has Teen Summer Reading Clubs with some special activties for teens.See the details here.

• Fraser Valley Rowing Club’s Summer Learn to Row Program. This program includes 8 on the water rowing lessons. Fraser Valley Rowing Club offers competitive and non-competitive rowing programs. See more details here 

  Youth Empowerment Summer Camp: Youth with Purpose is new kind of ‘horsepower’; it is dedicated to helping youth of today live their lives on purpose, make healthy choices and be confident and clear on who they are. Read more about the camp

FOR STUDENTS/FAMILIES FROM SECONDARY SCHOOLS

• Take summer courses online: Abbotsford Virtual school offers: Planning 10, Chemistry 11, Biology 11 & 12, Physics 11, English 10, 11 & 12, SS 10 & 11, Science 10, Foundations & Pre-Calculus 10, Pre-Calculus 11 & 12. Courses begin June 24, Registration cut-off is July 2, and Courses end on August 2. More at www.avs34.com

FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY:

• Jam in Jubilee is Abbotsford’s premier summer arts and musical festival, organized and presented by the Atangard Community Project. Drawing audiences to Jubilee Park each week, the festival endeavours to cultivate a sense of pride and joy in the downtown core of Abbotsford. Jam in Jubilee continues to provide this as a free event with the purposes of creating a festival that appeals to all ages. See more details here.
