Schools are a vital part of the community. Each school has a catchment which means that children from a certain radius go to a certain school.
Each school has a Parent Advisory Council or PAC. They are made up of an elected group of volunteer parents who hold an important function in the school. But they can’t do it alone, they need all parents to participate in order to make the biggest impact.

Purposes of PAC as taken from the DPAC website:
– To promote the education and welfare of students
-To encourage parent involvement in the school
-To advise the school board, principal, and staff on any matter relating to the school, other than matters assigned to the school planning council
-To participate in the work of the school planning council through the PAC’s elected representatives
-To promote the interests of public education
-To provide leadership
-To contribute to a sense of community within the school and between the school, home, and neighborhood
-To provide parent education and professional development, and a forum for discussion of educational issues
-To assist parents in obtaining information and communicating with the principal and staff about their child’s progress or other concerns
– To assist the principal and staff in ensuring the highest safety standards are maintained in the school and neighborhood
-To organize and support activities for students and parents
-To provide financial support for the goals of this council, as determined by the membership

Get involved with your PAC. Attend the PAC meetings at your school, generally they run once a month and usually babysitting is provided.
Support local PAC initiatives.
Below we’ve compiled a list of your local schools and PAC information as we could find it. We’ve encouraged each school’s PAC to use this forum to announce fundraisers, meeting schedules, goals of the PAC, or whatever else they wish to share with you.
It does take a village to raise a child; we can all do our part to ensure each school year is the very best!
