The Value Of Private Property

Just before New Years Abbotsford Today published a link to a video by Alesha Gillett of homeless protester Doug Smith watching his personal belongings dragged through the mud in the aftermath of the Standoff in Jubilee.

Unfortunately the link we published did not work.

We have now posted the video at the top right hand side of the home page and have a working link here.

Have a look. It will tell you volumes about the value our City puts on the private property, personal belongings and the rights of the homeless citizens who live in this city. Let us know what you think of the City’s treatement of Doug Smith’s belongings. Does it say something about the way the City views the homeless?

Smith is a Director of Fraser Health Region Drug War Survivors; the first named plaintiff in a law suit against the City of Abbotsford over the City’s Anti-Harm Reduction bylaw and a named plaintiff in one of the small claims court cases against the Abbotsford Police Department (APD) over its use of pepper spray and the confiscation and destruction of personal property. Do you think that may have played a role in the treatment of his private property?
