Update 04/06/14. The Abbotsford Police Department’s investigation into yesterday’s shooting incident is continuing. Submitted. This morning at 11:35 am, the Abbotsford Police Department received multiple calls concerning a residence in the 33200 block of East Bourquin Crescent. Residents in this complex and surrounding area reported possible shots fired. The APD also received a call indicating that a 23 year old man had barricaded himself inside a room in a suite in the complex.
Abbotsford Police Department Patrol Division, Emergency Response Team, Traffic, Youth Squad, Major Crime Unit and all other available resources arrived in the area and began creating a perimeter and evacuating residents. Abbotsford Fire Rescue and BC Ambulance staff assisted at a command post created near the scene and the Air 1 police helicopter provided assistance in the air. Despite the large police presence, the suspect refused to comply with police commands and remained inside with firearms and ammunition.
At 1:20 pm, after continued communication by APD to the suspect, he surrendered to police without further incident. Multiple firearms and evidence of multiple shots fired were located in the suite. It was extremely fortunate that nobody was injured as a result of the shots or the incident.
The investigation is continuing and updates will be provided when more details are available.
