The official candidates list for the 2014 municipal election was released on Friday, October 10. Today Media has assembled a directory of candidates which is linked to their websites.

It is designed for Abbotsford voters who want to get a better idea of what each candidate stands for and, as long as the contact information is on the website, who may want to get in touch with individual candidates.

The City of Abbotsford’s website has an exhaustive section on the election filled with information and links which will help voters determine if they are the voters list, where they can vote on voting day, advance poll locations and much more.

The links below were uploaded October 15, 2014 and represent the available information at the time of publication. Not all candidates had websites as of that date. We will be updating the list of links as candidates create their websites. For incumbent councillors who have not launched a website we have linked to their City of Abbotsford profile. If you are a candidate and your name below is not linked to your website, if you have a Facebook or Twitter account you would like us to link to, or if you launch your website in the coming weeks, please simply send us an email with the link to your website to editor@abbotsfordtoday.ca.

Information For Voters

If your name does not appear on the List of Registered Electors, you will be required to register
on voting day, by completing the required application form available at your voting place. To
register you must meet the following qualifications:

  • you are a Canadian citizen;
  • you are 18 years of age or older on general voting day;
  • you have lived in B.C. for at least six months immediately before the day of registration;
  • you have lived in the City of Abbotsford for at least 30 days or more immediately before the
    day of registration; and
  • you are not disqualified by any enactment from voting in an election or otherwise
    disqualified by law.

Assistance For Voters

All Voting Places, plus the Voting Places for Advance Voting Opportunity, for the 2014 General Local Election will have clearly identified handicapped parking spaces, in close proximity to the Voting Place entrance.

The City of Abbotsford is pleased to offer curbside voting for those electors with physical disabilities who are unable to enter the Voting Place. Persons unable to enter a voting place should have someone alert the Presiding Election Official (PEO) at their assigned Voting Place on General Voting Day. The PEO will arrange to have the necessary documents, forms and ballot (with secrecy folder) brought to your vehicle.

The City of Abbotsford is pleased to offer language translation services at select Voting Places. Election officials at some Voting Places will be fluent in English and Punjabi, and will be available to assist electors who require language translation.
