APD Introduces SMS Reporting For Non-Emergency Incidents

As part of the Abbotsford Police Department’s objective to provide the highest quality of police services to the community, we have enabled another way for citizens to make contact and report incidents. In addition to reporting in person, over the phone or through on-line reporting, people can now text the APD with their non-emergency concerns. The text (SMS) service will work with any cellular phone by texting 222973 (abbypd).

Text users will engage in live contact with our Communications Centre. This is unlike many tip based text options available in other jurisdictions where the communication is essentially one way. Those texting the APD will dialogue with our staff in a two-way conversation very similar to reporting by telephone. That said text contact should be used for non-emergency situations only. A 911 telephone call remains the method for reaching us in an emergency.

The APD recognizes the popularity of texting as a means for people to communicate. We want to ensure we provide service that is convenient and encourages communication with us.
