Submitted. Dr. Eugenie Scott, former director of the National Center for Science Education in the U.S., will be an honoured guest speaker at UFV on March 28, 2014 at 7pm at Lecture Hall B 101.
The lecture is sponsored by the Department of Biology and hosted by the Fraser Valley Atheists, Skeptics and Humanists. The title of her speech is ‘Everything Evolves, Even Creationism’.
Dr. Scott is an American physical anthropologist, a former university professor and one of the strongest voices challenging the teachings of young earth creationism and intelligent design in schools.
Dr. Scott holds a PhD. in Biological Anthropology from the University of Missouri. A human biologist, her research has been in medical anthropology and skeletal biology. Scott is nationally recognized as a proponent of church/state separation and serves on the National Advisory Council of Americans United for Separation of Church and State and other organizations. She has worked tirelessly to communicate the scientific method to the general public and to improve how science as a way of knowing is taught in school.
She is the author of ‘Evolution vs. Creationism’ and the co- editor of ‘Not In Our Classrooms’.
