Fatal Collision On Highway One Claims Life Of Abbotsford Resident

Submitted. On October 22, 2013 at approx 0350am RCMP received a report of a two vehicle collision on Highway One, west of 264 Street in the eastbound lanes.

Initial investigation indicated an SUV type vehicle traveling eastbound along Highway One collided into the rear of a construction vehicle that was parked on the travel portion of the highway. The SUV burst into flames with the driver and lone occupant sustaining fatal injuries.

The construction vehicle was parked on the highway in the fast lane with all emergency equipment in operation. The two man crew associated to the construction vehicle had just exited the vehicle and did not sustain any physical injuries.

The victim of the fatal crash on Highway #1 and 264th Street is 30-year-old Mandeep Singh Aujla from Abbotsford. Mr. Aujla was driving a 2001 Grey Toyota RAV4.

Contributing factors appear to be speed relative to road and weather conditions consisting of dense-heavy fog in the area of the collision. Langley Fire Department, EHS, Deas Island Traffic Services, Langley RCMP Detachment and LMD ICARS are assisting Port Mann Freeway Patrol in the investigation.
