From CBC. The Columbia Bible College (CBC) Bearcats’ Anna Cupido and Kevin Ford were named PACWESt Athletes of the Week this week.

Women’s Volleyball Winner – Anna Cupido (Columbia Bible College)
PACWEST Week 16 – January 20th, 2013

3rd year setter and team captain Anna Cupido showed why she is one of the top setters in PACWEST this past weekend as she quarterbacked the CBC Bearcats to a sweep over the Douglas College Royals. Cupido dished out 43 assists on Friday night and added 56 more on Saturday as the Bearcats improved to 10-6 in the PACWEST standings.

Cupido’s exceptional ball distribution led to three Bearcat hitters with double figure kills each night as the Bearcats diverse offense kept a solid and much improved Douglas College team out of the win column. The third year setter added 9 kills & 4 aces to her 99 assists but the real story was how she accomplished those numbers while racking up 25 digs off of the Royals, who peppered the Bearcats setter by hitting balls into positions one and two consistently both nights.

“Anna is one of the best all around setters in the conference this year and continues to find ways to give her hitters lots of single block hitting opportunities week in and week out” noted Bearcats head coach Duncan Harrison. “She is an exceptional leader and a high achiever both on the court and in the classroom”.

Men’s Basketball Winner – Kevin Ford (Columbia Bible College)
PACWEST Week 16 – January 20th, 2013

Heading into week 8, the Columbia Bearcats found themselves tied for last place and taking on two of the league’s best teams, the Douglas College Royals (#3) and the Langara Falcons (#1). Not only were these two of the best teams in the PACWEST, but Langara was also the top team in the nation with a perfect 12-0 record thus far.

Friday night the Cats battled hard coming out on top with a 70-67 win over the 3rd place Royals. An impressive feat! They were led by star point guard Kevin Ford who finished the night with a double-double, 17 points and 16 rebounds. But the following night was even more impressive than the first for Ford and the Bearcats.

With his team taking on the best in the nation, Ford held nothing back leading his team to victory and handing the Langara Falcons their first loss of the season as he hit a clutch 3-point shot in the dying second to put the Cats up by 2. Ford finished the night with a triple-double, 27 points, 12 rebounds, and 14 assists, slingshotting his team into 4th in the PACWEST.

This is the second time in 3 weeks Kevin has been awarded Athlete of the Week.
